Christine Janin is an Italian physician and mountaineer based in France, known for pioneering achievements in high-altitude mountaineering and polar exploration. During the 1980s and 1990s she took part in several major expeditions — including ascents of 8,000-meter peaks such as Gasherbrum II and Hidden Peak — culminating in her 1990 ascent of Everest, when she became the first French woman to reach the summit. In 1992 she completed the Seven Summits challenge, leading expeditions to Vinson, McKinley, Elbrus, Kilimanjaro, Puncak Jaya and Aconcagua.

In 1997 she reached the North Pole without mechanical assistance or sled dogs, a feat that places her among the pioneers of polar crossings. Alongside her climbing career, Janin carried out scientific work in extreme environments, establishing a high-altitude physiology laboratory and publishing accounts and guides on mountaineering and expeditions.

Founder of the association À chacun son Everest, she has devoted herself since 1994 to programs that use mountain experiences as therapeutic tools for children with cancer and, later, for women in remission, welcoming thousands of participants through 2021. Her career has been recognized with various national honors and sports awards.
