Luís Carlos de Bourbon-Two Sicilies, known as the Count of Aquila, was a 19th-century Neapolitan prince linked to the Italian branch of the House of Bourbon. Born at the court of the Two Sicilies, he pursued a naval career: he became an officer in the kingdom’s navy, served aboard several frigates in the Mediterranean and reached honorary ranks such as vice admiral; he was also an honorary admiral of the Imperial Brazilian Navy. His dynastic status and family ties shaped his public life — he was brother to European sovereigns and empresses and married Princess Januária of Brazil, living with his family in Naples until the political changes brought by the campaigns of 1861. Besides his military service, he cultivated the arts, especially seascape painting, receiving recognition in European salons and mentions in artistic catalogs. His life exemplifies the intersections of dynastic duty, naval service and cultural activity within 19th-century European monarchies.
