Craig Delano Melvin is an American television journalist known for his work as an anchor and reporter for NBC News and MSNBC. A government graduate of Wofford College, he began his career at local stations in South Carolina and Washington, D.C., where he worked as a reporter, producer and later a news anchor. His work includes local series on education and homelessness and regional and state awards for journalistic vigor and presentation.
At the national level, Melvin rose to prominence covering major events and tragedies — party conventions, mass shootings, natural disasters and high-profile legal stories — and as part of Olympic broadcast teams. In 2016 he took on a continuous news program on MSNBC and, since 2012, has regularly contributed as a correspondent for NBC News.
From 2018 he became established on the Today show anchor desk, assuming higher-visibility roles and a permanent spot in the morning lineup. He has also hosted true-crime projects and taken part in special broadcasts, such as the annual Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting. His work is characterized by coverage of nationally significant news and by versatility across journalistic settings, from field reporting to studio presentation.
