Dick Posthumus is an American businessman and politician with a long record of service in Michigan state politics. Raised on a dairy farm in Alto, he graduated from Michigan State University, where he was active in the Republican Party’s youth organizations. He began his political career managing campaigns and was elected to the state Senate in 1982. In the legislature he became known as majority leader, a position he held for a record span until 1998, when he joined Governor John Engler’s ticket as lieutenant governor, serving in that role for four years. In 2002 he was the Republican nominee for governor of Michigan, winning the party primary but losing the general election. After the campaign he returned to the private sector as an executive, becoming CEO of a technology/services company in the mid-2000s, and later served as a senior adviser to Governor‑elect Rick Snyder. His career combines legislative leadership, administrative experience, and movement between public office and executive roles in the private sector.
