Sophie Adelaide Ludovika Maria, born into the House of Wittelsbach, was Duchess in Bavaria by birth and became Countess of Toerring‑Jettenbach through her marriage to Hans Veit zu Toerring‑Jettenbach in 1898. The daughter of Karl Theodor, Duke in Bavaria, and Infanta Maria José of Portugal, she was raised in an environment shaped by her mother's religiosity and a strong sense of family duty. The family lived at Tegernsee Castle, where her parents maintained medical aid activities — including an ophthalmology clinic — and later in Munich, where they opened another clinic for the poor. This context reflects ties between the local nobility and charitable and public health initiatives at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. Married in Seefeld, Sophie Adelaide had three children, who went on to form marital ties with other European royal and noble houses, preserving the family's influence in subsequent generations. She spent most of her life connected to the family's properties and died at Seefeld Castle in 1957. Her legacy is that of an aristocrat whose social role combined dynastic traditions with acts of charitable service associated with her family circle.
