Helena Luísa Henriqueta de Orleães, known as Duchess of Aosta Hélène, was a princess of the House of Orléans and a prominent figure within European dynastic networks at the turn of the 19th to the 20th century. The daughter of Prince Louis Philippe, Count of Paris, she grew up in exile and later in France amid the political tensions surrounding the restoration and banishment of French royal houses. Her beauty and social rank made her a central figure in intense marriage negotiations among European courts, with suitors including prominent princes and monarchs. In 1895 she married Prince Emanuele Filiberto, Duke of Aosta, a member of the Italian royal family; the union produced two sons, Amedeo and Aimone, who became respectively the third and fourth Dukes of Aosta — the latter remembered for his brief reign as King of Croatia under the name Tomislav II. The marriage reinforced ties between the Italian and French royal houses and was attended by high European dignitaries. Widowed in 1931, Hélène entered a second marriage in 1936 with Colonel Otto Campini. Her life illustrates both the political role of dynastic marriages and the vicissitudes faced by exiled royal families during Europe’s transition into the 20th century, leaving a legacy tied to the continuity of succession lines and the connections among European monarchies.
