Margarita de Bourbon, Duchess of Soria, is an Infanta of Spain belonging to the generation of the royal family born in exile. Sister of the emeritus king Juan Carlos I and aunt of the current monarch Felipe VI, she became known for her discreet but steady presence alongside the Royal Household, despite being blind from birth. Her condition did not prevent her from cultivating cultural interests, especially music — she plays the piano and speaks five languages — nor from maintaining a public role at family and institutional events. In 1972 she married Juan Carlos Zurita and, by renouncing succession rights linked to the marriage, lived outside the direct line of succession, although that renunciation did not receive subsequent formal ratification. She inherited the title Duchess of Hernani in 1979 and, in 1981, her brother granted her the lifetime title Duchess of Soria; the legal case concerning the dukedom of Hernani was decided in her favor by the Supreme Court in 1999. Together with her husband she founded in 1989 the Fundación Cultural Duques de Soria, dedicated to Hispanism and the promotion of Spanish culture. She is also honorary president of delegations and social foundations in Madrid, including the local UNICEF committee, the Spanish Heart Foundation, the ONCE Foundation and the Spanish Federation of Hemophilia, reflecting a public profile shaped by cultural and philanthropic initiatives.
