Ève Denise Curie Labouisse was a Franco-American writer, journalist, and pianist, best known for the biography Madame Curie and the reportage Journey Among Warriors. The youngest daughter of Marie and Pierre Curie, she declined the scientific career that shaped her family and made her mark in letters and journalism, with works translated and widely reprinted. During World War II and in the years that followed, she worked as a correspondent and author of accounts that brought her international recognition. Her output also includes translations and edited volumes, as well as pieces and editorial contributions published in magazines and anthologies. From the 1960s she devoted herself to humanitarian work, affiliating with UNICEF alongside her husband, Henry Richardson Labouisse Jr. The couple visited more than a hundred beneficiary countries with programs for mothers and children, and she was often referred to as “the first lady of UNICEF.” Her legacy combines biographical and journalistic preservation of her family’s memory with long-standing humanitarian engagement, reflecting a public career focused on communication and international action on behalf of children.
