Ferdinand Porsche was an automotive engineer of Austrian origin who became a German citizen, known for designs that shaped the automobile industry in the 20th century. His career includes pioneering work on electric vehicles and on the design of both mass-market and competition cars. Among his most influential projects are the original design of the Volkswagen Type 1 (Beetle) and, together with his son Ferry and their team, the design and construction of the Porsche 356, which led to the founding of the Porsche company.
