Gad Saad is an evolutionary psychologist of Lebanese origin who became a Canadian citizen, and a professor at the John Molson School of Business at Concordia University. He is known for applying principles of evolutionary psychology to marketing and consumer behavior. His academic training includes degrees from McGill (bachelor’s and MBA) and a master’s and PhD from Cornell, where he studied under J. Edward Russo. He has been on Concordia’s faculty since 1994 and holds a chair in behavioral sciences and Darwinian consumption.
Saad has established himself as an author and public communicator: he has published books on the evolutionary foundations of consumption, including The Consuming Instinct (2011) and The Parasitic Mind (2020), as well as edited academic volumes on evolutionary psychology applied to business sciences. His scholarly work addresses topics such as conspicuous consumption, sex differences in economic games, and adaptations related to mate choice.
In addition to his academic work, he maintains a public presence through a Psychology Today blog and the YouTube channel The Saad Truth, which has garnered millions of views. He has received awards such as the Distinguished Teaching Award from the John Molson School of Business (2000) and the Darwinism Applied Award (2014). His approach and opinions have been cited in national and international media.
