Gigliola Cinquetti is an Italian singer, actress, journalist and television presenter whose career began in youth and reached an international audience. She first came to attention by winning the Festival di Castrocaro in 1963, and rose to immediate fame after winning the Sanremo Music Festival and then the Eurovision Song Contest in 1964 with “Non ho l’età (per amarti)”. Her repertoire includes hits such as “Dio, come ti amo!” and “Sì”, the latter provoking strong public reaction and controversy over Italy’s broadcast of the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest.
Over the decades she alternated her music career with work in film — starring in the film inspired by “Dio, come ti amo!” — and with journalistic and television work for RAI. After a period away to focus on her family, she returned as a presenter and contributor to programs and publications, and has hosted entertainment and cultural formats.
Gigliola also worked in the visual arts, creating cover art and illustrations, and released several albums with international distribution, helping to bring Italian music to audiences abroad. She has received recognition for her career and has maintained a public presence, particularly on Italian television, since the 1990s.
