Giorgio Armani was an Italian fashion designer and entrepreneur who, beginning in 1975, built one of contemporary fashion’s major empires. Known for a minimalist aesthetic and for soft coats and unstructured suits, Armani reshaped men’s and women’s elegance, bringing sobriety and sophistication inspired by Italian cinema of the 1960s and 1970s. He became a central figure on the red carpet and gained international prominence by dressing film stars and creating memorable costumes, notably for American Gigolo and for more than a hundred film productions.
Beyond fashion, Armani presided over wide diversification: he launched lines such as Emporio and AX Armani Exchange, developed jewelry and furniture collections (Armani/Casa), and extended the brand into luxury hotels, sports, and music. He also owned the basketball team Olimpia Milano and was responsible for Olympic and football club uniforms, strengthening ties to the sports world.
His activity included cultural initiatives and positional controversies, such as adopting measures against models with very low BMI. Over his career he amassed a multibillionaire fortune and left a lasting legacy in the way contemporary fashion balances luxury, cinema, and lifestyle.
