Guillermo González Camarena was a Mexican electrical engineer and inventor known for developing one of the earliest practical color television systems. In 1940 he devised the chromoscopic adapter and the sequential-field trichromatic system, with a U.S. patent dated 1942; in the 1960s he presented improved versions, including a simplified two-color system. His work enabled color broadcasts in Mexico years before widespread adoption of standards such as NTSC.

Beyond television inventions, González Camarena worked in broadcasting and in the technical regulation of the sector: he conducted government-commissioned studies on noise and attenuation in communications, took part in operating weather balloons for propagation tests, and collaborated on drafting standards for Mexican radio stations. In 1948 he founded Laboratorios Gon-Cam, the center for his developments and their applications.

He also applied television technologies to education and medicine, exploring the instructional potential of black-and-white and color imagery. His death in 1965 in an automobile accident had national impact: broadcasters suspended transmissions in mourning, reflecting his prominence and legacy in Mexico’s broadcasting technology.
