Jacobo Zabludovsky Kraveski was a Mexican journalist and a television pioneer in the country. Regarded as Mexico’s first television anchor, he became the face of the newscast 24 Horas, a program that dominated ratings from the 1970s through the 1990s and shaped national news broadcasting. A law graduate, Zabludovsky devoted his career to journalism from the 1940s onward, moving from radio to television and covering historic events such as Fidel Castro’s entry into Havana in 1959 and the earthquake that devastated Mexico City in 1985. His work also included interviews with prominent political and cultural figures. During his career he faced criticism for an editorial line aligned with the major network that employed him, particularly during the 1988 and 1994 elections, which sparked debates about independence and bias in television coverage. After leaving the presentation of 24 Horas in 1998, he remained active on radio, in columns and in documentaries, maintaining a public presence until shortly before his death in 2015. Legacy: a central figure in the consolidation of television journalism in Mexico, his career symbolizes both the professionalization of the television newscast format and the controversies over the relationship between media and political power.
