Jean-Marc Cerrone, known professionally as Marc Cerrone, is a French musician and producer whose work defined the height of the disco era in the 1970s and 1980s. Trained as a drummer, he became known as a composer, conductor, DJ and show creator, combining symphonic orchestration and synthesizers to broaden the sonic range of dance music. His album Supernature became an international hit, selling around eight million copies, and helped establish his style that blends electronic grooves, lavish arrangements and conceptual elements.
Over his career he has sold more than 30 million albums, won awards connected to the disco scene and placed hits such as Love in C Minor. He worked with well‑known artists and producers, and his music has been reappropriated by later generations through samples and remixes. He is also known for large‑scale live productions, including shows presented in Japan and theatrical stagings based on original projects.
Cerrone’s legacy lies in expanding the language of disco music, in bringing electronic music and orchestration closer together, and in influencing DJs, producers and collectives who have continued to reinterpret his repertoire on dancefloors and records across decades.
