Jennifer O'Neill is an actress and former model born in Rio de Janeiro and raised in a multicultural family. She began her career as a model at fifteen in New York, which led to a transition into film in the late 1960s. Her first notable credit was in For Love of Ivy (1968), and she gained wider recognition starring in Rio Lobo (1970) opposite John Wayne, cast on the recommendation of Howard Hawks. Commercial and critical success came with Summer of '42 (1971), which brought her prominence in the United States; thereafter her film work alternated between smaller roles in features such as Lady Ice (1973) and Scanners (1981) and appearances in European productions, including a role in Luchino Visconti’s final film, L'Innocente. At the same time she built a career in television, notably in TV movies and series such as Love's Savage Fury and Bare Essence. Off screen, she wrote the autobiography Surviving Myself and is involved in humanitarian causes. She currently lives on a farm in Nashville and is the mother of three children.
