Joan Miró i Ferrà was a Spanish surrealist sculptor, painter, printmaker and ceramist
As a young man he attended the Reial Academia Catalana de Belles Arts de Sant Jordi da Barcelona and the Academia de Gali. In 1919, after completing his studies, he stayed in Paris, where he met Pablo Picasso and came into contact with modernist tendencies such as Fauvism and Dadaism.
In the early 1920s he met the founder of the Surrealist movement, André Breton, among other artists. He participated in the first Surrealist exhibition in 1925.
Towards the end of his life he reduced the elements of his artistic language to points, lines and a few symbols, and reduced the use of color, essentially using white and black.
