John LeClair is a former American professional hockey player whose NHL career spanned 16 seasons from 1991 to 2006. A left winger, he rose to prominence with the Montreal Canadiens—winning the Stanley Cup with them in 1993, during which he scored two decisive overtime goals in the finals—and with the Philadelphia Flyers, where he became known as part of the famous “Legion of Doom” line alongside Eric Lindros and Mikael Renberg. With the Flyers LeClair established himself as one of the league’s most feared goal scorers: he was the first U.S.-born player to record three consecutive 50-goal seasons and ranks among the franchise’s top scorers with 333 regular-season goals. His high-scoring seasons and physical presence on the ice earned him All-Star selections and lasting recognition from fans and analysts. After a final stint with the Pittsburgh Penguins, he retired in 2007. Off the ice, he chairs the John LeClair Foundation, which supports youth programs in Vermont, and has been honored with inductions into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame (2009), the Vermont Sports Hall of Fame (2012) and the Philadelphia Flyers Hall of Fame (2014). In 2023 he returned to the club as a special advisor for hockey operations.
