John Wayne, stage name of Marion Robert Morrison, was an award-winning American actor.
He made his film debut in 1930 in The Big Trail. He rose to prominence in John Ford's 1939 Stagecoach. That film became the work that defined the main characteristics of the American Western.
The partnership between Wayne and Ford continued with major successes and unforgettable films (there were 22 in total), such as Three Godfathers (1948), The Quiet Man (1952), The Searchers (1956), The Wings of Eagles (1957), The Horse Soldiers (1959) and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962), as well as the Cavalry trilogy, Fort Apache (1948), She Wore a Yellow Ribbon (1949) and Rio Grande (1950).
