Johnny Whitaker is an American actor and singer whose career began in childhood, with steady work in films and television series during the 1960s and 1970s. He became known for playing Jody Davis on the series Family Affair (1966–1971) and for originating the role of Scotty Baldwin on General Hospital in 1965. He also appeared in notable film and television productions such as The Russians Are Coming, the Russians Are Coming (1966), the musical adaptation of Tom Sawyer (1973), and the children’s miniseries Sigmund and the Sea Monsters (1973), as well as in Hallmark Hall of Fame and episodes of Bonanza, Bewitched, and Gunsmoke.
Beyond his work as a performer, Whitaker worked behind the scenes in entertainment: he served as an information technology consultant at CBS, was part of the agency Whitaker Entertainment, and at one point managed actress Dana Plato. His personal life included a period of struggling with substance dependence; after treatment he became a certified counselor and founded a nonprofit organization serving Spanish speakers.
Recognized for his child acting, he received the Young Artist Former Child Star Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999. In recent decades he made occasional appearances in projects connected to the works that made him famous, including a 2016 appearance in a revival of Sigmund and the Sea Monsters.
