Juan Martín del Potro is a former Argentine professional tennis player, known for his powerful serve and forehand. His greatest individual achievement was winning the 2009 US Open, where he beat Rafael Nadal in the semifinals and Roger Federer in the final, breaking the near-total dominance of the so-called "Big Three" at that time. Over his career he won several significant titles, including the 2018 Indian Wells ATP Masters 1000, and played a key role in Argentina’s 2016 Davis Cup campaign. He reached a career-high ranking of world No. 3 in 2018 and had previously risen to No. 4 in 2010. Del Potro also made an impact at the Olympics, taking bronze in London 2012 and silver in Rio 2016. His career was repeatedly affected by serious injuries, especially to his wrist and knee, which sidelined him for extended periods and ultimately led to his retirement in 2022, with a farewell at the Buenos Aires tournament. Del Potro’s legacy combines top-level results at Grand Slams and Masters events with the image of a resilient competitor admired by fans and fellow players on the tour.
