Karen Allen is an American actress with a long career in film, television, and theatre. She became known internationally for playing Marion Ravenwood in Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), a role that earned her the Saturn Award for Best Actress and that she returned to in the Indiana Jones sequels (2008 and 2023). Before that she appeared in films such as Animal House (1978), Manhattan (1979), and The Wanderers (1979), building a reputation across comedy, drama, and science fiction. In 1980s cinema she was prominent in titles like Starman (1984), which brought another Saturn nomination, Shoot the Moon (1982), and Scrooged (1988). At the same time she maintained an active theatre life — including seasons on Broadway, work with companies such as Shakespeare & Company, and long ties to festivals like the Berkshire Theater Group and Williamstown. Across decades Allen balanced screen roles with commitments to the stage and to directing: she mounted theatrical productions and directed short films, one of which received an international award. Her later performances in Year by the Sea (2017) and Colewell (2019) reinforce a career marked by versatility and a presence in both mainstream productions and independent projects.
