Kitty Carruthers (Caitlin A. Carruthers) is a former American figure skater who specialized in pair skating with her adoptive brother, Peter Carruthers. The pair reached their competitive peak in the early 1980s, winning the U.S. national title four years in a row (1981–1984), earning the bronze medal at the 1982 World Championships and taking the silver medal at the 1984 Winter Olympics. Coached by Ronald Ludington, the siblings progressed rapidly after modest results in 1979, going on to win and place at international events such as the Nebelhorn Trophy and the inaugural Skate America. Their fifth-place finish at the 1980 Olympics preceded their Olympic success in 1984. After leaving amateur competition, Kitty and Peter turned their sporting fame into a professional career, performing for about twelve years in skating tours and shows including Champions on Ice, Ice Capades and Stars on Ice, as well as appearing in televised specials. Institutional recognition included induction into the Adoption Hall of Fame (1996) and the United States Figure Skating Hall of Fame (1999). After retiring from performing, Kitty worked as a coach, continuing to contribute to the development of new skaters.
