Linda Cristal, born Marta Victoria Moya Peggo Burges, was an Argentine‑American actress known for her work in film and television, particularly in westerns. She first attracted attention in Spanish‑language cinema and rose to international prominence in the 1950s with roles in English‑language films, including Comanche (1956) and The Perfect Furlough (1958), for which she won the Golden Globe for Most Promising Newcomer. In the 1960s she established her reputation on television as Victoria Cannon in NBC’s The High Chaparral (1967–1971). That role earned her another Golden Globe and marked her successful transition from cinema to television, along with Emmy nominations. She worked with prominent figures in American film and appeared in numerous episodic TV productions throughout her career. After a partial withdrawal in the 1960s to focus on family life, she returned to act occasionally in films and miniseries in subsequent decades, remaining active until the mid‑1980s. She is remembered as a pioneering Latina leading actress in American entertainment and for her contributions to the classic era of western film and television.
