Linda Hunt is an American actress known for her work on stage, in film, and on television. A graduate of the Goodman School of Drama, she built her career in the theater—earning an Obie and a Tony nomination—before moving into film, where she made her debut in Popeye (1980) and appeared in movies such as Dune (1984), Silverado (1985), and Kindergarten Cop (1990). Her most notable work came in The Year of Living Dangerously (1982), for which she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of the character Billy Kwan, becoming the first person to win the Oscar for playing a role of the opposite sex. In addition to film, Hunt established a strong television career with recurring roles on series like The Practice and, from 2009 to 2023, as Henrietta “Hetty” Lange on NCIS: Los Angeles, a role that brought awards and wide recognition. Known for her deep voice, Hunt has also been prominent in narration and voice work, including characters in animated productions and as the narrator in the God of War video game series. Offscreen, she has maintained a long-term personal relationship and serves as an advocate for animal causes.
