Ludwig Prandtl was a German physicist and engineer recognized as one of the pioneers of modern aerodynamics. Trained at the Technical University of Munich, he developed, in the early 20th century, mathematical concepts crucial to understanding the flow of fluids around solid surfaces. His description of the boundary layer, published in 1904, became fundamental for explaining drag and the velocity distribution adjacent to surfaces moving relative to a fluid.

Prandtl also contributed to the theory of thin airfoils and to the so-called lifting-line theory, establishing theoretical foundations that supported advances in subsonic aviation in the following decades. His name is commemorated in the Prandtl number, a dimensionless constant relevant in fluid mechanics.

Beyond his scientific contributions, his academic work and publications influenced generations of researchers in hydrodynamics and aerodynamics, solidifying his legacy as a leading figure in aeronautical engineering and applied physics.
