Mathias Malzieu is a French musician, singer and writer, best known as the vocalist and founder of the rock group Dionysos. Born in Montpellier, he began his musical career in the 1990s and established himself with a discography noted for imaginative lyrics and collaborative compositions in which he typically writes the lyrics and contributes the musical foundation. With Dionysos he has recorded numerous albums and toured extensively, building an artistic identity that blends rock, fantastic storytelling and theatricality.
Alongside his musical work, Malzieu has developed a substantial literary output: he has published short stories and several novels, including La Mécanique du cœur, which inspired an album and an animated film adaptation that he co-directed. His work crosses music, literature and film, reflecting a recurring personal universe of fables, memories and intimate themes.
Over his career he has collaborated with other performers and taken part in various projects, and he is a member of the artistic collective Ligue de l’Imaginaire. He overcame a serious health crisis in 2013, experienced publicly in a diary that became a book. In 2017 he was named a Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters in recognition of his contribution to the arts in France.
