Paul Frederic Simon is an American folk rock singer-songwriter; he became known for being part of the duo Simon & Garfunkel. He composed major hits such as "The Sound of Silence", "Mrs. Robinson" and "BridgeOver Troubled Water". He was ranked the 93rd best guitarist of all time by the American magazine Rolling Stone.
Success only came in the mid-1960s, with the reunion with his partner Art Garfunkel on the album Wednesday Morning (1964), which contained the classic track The Sounds of Silence, considered by many the best of their repertoire.
In 1965 Simon went to try his luck on the London folk circuit and, upon returning to the United States, found the song
at the top of the charts, in a version with electric instruments overdubbed onto the acoustic version recorded the previous year. He resumed the partnership with Garfunkel and they hastily recorded an album, welcomed by audiences and critics. Together they released a total of six records, all gold records for record sales. Their harmonious, delicate folk rock was very successful with songs such as "America", "I am a Rock", "The Boxer", "Bridge Over Troubled Waters", among others.
