Pedro Almodóvar Caballero is a Spanish filmmaker, actor and screenwriter.
Almodóvar was never able to study film, because neither he nor his family had the money to pay for his studies.
He was the first Spaniard to be nominated for the Oscar for Best Director. Publicly homosexual, his films address the theme of sexuality in a rather open manner.
His year of birth is uncertain, sometimes reported as 19491 and other times as 1951. One of the most awarded directors in the history of cinema, he has won two Oscars, two Golden Globes, four BAFTAs, four awards at the Cannes Film Festival and six Goyas, the highest honor of Spanish cinema.
