Princess Astrid of Belgium is a member of the Belgian royal family as the daughter of King Albert II and the sister of the current King Philippe. Also titled Archduchess of Austria-Este through her marriage to Archduke Lorenz, she belongs to the houses of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and Habsburg-Lorraine and is among the first in the line of succession to the throne. Educated in supplementary studies in the Netherlands, Switzerland and the United States, Astrid began a military career in 1997, reaching the rank of colonel in the medical unit. As an active member of the royal family, she carries out official engagements and performs representative duties since her brother’s accession, who appointed her honorary president of the Foreign Business Council. Known for her social commitment, she has presided over the Belgian Red Cross since 1994 and holds honorary positions in medical and cancer-fighting organizations. She is also involved in international initiatives to combat malaria and in organizations related to Paralympic sport, distinguished for her support of programs aimed at vulnerable groups. She is married, the mother of five children and a grandmother, maintaining a public presence tied to institutional duties and humanitarian causes.
