Prince Filippo of Bourbon-Two Sicilies was a member of the Bourbon-Two Sicilies royal house, born in France and part of a dynastic family that played a symbolically relevant role among European monarchies in the early 20th century. The son of Prince Alfonso, Count of Caserta, and Maria Antonietta, he held the position of a prince of the blood, participating in the networks of alliances and marriages that characterized transnational nobility of the era. He married Princess Marie Louise of Orléans in 1916; the union produced a son, Gaetano, and ended in divorce in 1925. In 1927 he entered a second, morganatic marriage with Odette Labori; that union produced no offspring. The succession issues and morganatic marriages in his family illustrate the dynastic and social limits faced by cadet branches of royal houses. He received honorary distinctions, among them the Grand Cross of the Order of Charles III and the Order of the Golden Fleece, indicators of aristocratic recognition and the honorific traditions among European courts.
