Prince Christoph of Hesse (Christoph Ernst August) was a member of the House of Hesse-Kassel and an aristocrat linked to the Nazi power network in Germany in the 1930s–1940s. The son of Frederick Charles of Hesse-Kassel and Princess Margaret of Prussia, he belonged to a family with extensive dynastic ties — among his maternal grandparents were Emperor Frederick III and Princess Victoria of the United Kingdom — placing him at the center of relations among European royal houses.
During the Nazi era he held prominent roles: he is recorded as having positions in Hermann Göring’s intelligence apparatus, collaboration with Heinrich Himmler, and membership in the Schutzstaffel (SS). Those ties indicate active participation in the regime’s state machinery, making him notable among aristocrats who joined Nazi structures.
In 1930 he married Princess Sophie of Greece and Denmark, with whom he had children, creating family links that included, among others, the future Duke of Edinburgh. He died on 7 October 1943 in Italy; sources give conflicting accounts of the circumstances — an air accident in the Apennines or death in combat — so the record warrants caution.
