Richie Furay is an American musician, singer, guitarist and songwriter, known for co-founding influential bands such as Buffalo Springfield, Poco and the Souther–Hillman–Furay Band. In all of these groups he played an active role in the emergence of country rock, contributing songs and vocals — one of his best-known compositions is “Kind Woman,” written for his wife and recorded by Poco. Throughout his career Furay alternated commercial success and stylistic experimentation, standing out as a vocalist and for his use of twelve-string guitars in arrangements that blended folk, rock and country elements. His presence was decisive for the repertoire and sound of the bands he joined, contributing performances and songs to key albums of the late 1960s and early 1970s. In the 1980s, following a spiritual journey that began while he was a member of the Souther–Hillman–Furay Band, Furay released albums with Christian themes and became a full-time pastor at Calvary Chapel in Broomfield, Colorado, a position he held until his retirement in 2017. Institutional recognition includes induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 as a member of Buffalo Springfield and, in 2015, his induction into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame as a member of Poco, reflecting his influence and legacy in American rock.
