Simon Helberg is an American actor, comedian, director, producer, voice actor, and musician, internationally known for playing aerospace engineer Howard Wolowitz on the hit series The Big Bang Theory. His long run on the show (2007–2019) brought him wide exposure, placed him among television’s highest-paid actors according to Forbes, and led to awards and nominations including a Critics' Choice Television Award and multiple Screen Actors Guild nominations. A fine arts graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, Helberg began his career as a musician and actor while still young, working in theatre and playing piano in Los Angeles clubs. In the 2000s he built a reputation in comedy with roles in films and series—most notably A Serious Man and appearances on sketch programs—and through the creative partnership Derek and Simon with Derek Waters. In film, beyond comic roles, he had a prominent turn as pianist Cosmé McMoon in Florence Foster Jenkins (2016), which earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor. He also directed the feature We'll Never Have Paris (2014) and has appeared in more recent film and musical projects, such as the musical Annette (2021). His body of work combines comic performance, musical skill, and ventures as a filmmaker.
