Stephanie Cole is an English actress with a well-established career in theatre, radio, film and especially television, where she rose to prominence from the early 1980s. Trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, she became known for often playing characters older than her real age, a trait that defined memorable roles in series such as Tenko, Open All Hours and Waiting for God — for the latter she won the British Comedy Award for Best TV Actress (1992).
Over the decades, Cole moved between comedy and drama in prominent projects: she appeared in television classics (Doc Martin, Coronation Street, Still Open All Hours), award-winning monologues (Talking Heads) and successful radio sitcoms (Ed Reardon's Week, Cabin Pressure). On stage, she amassed decades of work in the West End, in plays such as Noises Off, Steel Magnolias and A Passionate Woman.
Recognized for her versatility and artistic longevity, she received an OBE in 2005 for services to the arts and to volunteering, and an honorary degree from the University of Bristol. Off screen, Cole is involved in social causes and serves as an ambassador for a medical charity supporting international surgical care.
