Susan Elaine Rancourt was a young American identified among the victims of Theodore “Ted” Bundy, a serial killer active in the 1970s. Her case was part of the series of abductions and homicides that prompted interstate investigations and attracted intense media coverage, helping to reveal Bundy’s predatory pattern.
Rancourt appears in accounts of the victims that were used to build Bundy’s criminal profile: attractive, charismatic men who gained women’s trust before attacking them. The collective impact of these crimes encouraged changes in police techniques for cooperation between states and in the development of more systematic criminal profiling.
