Teddy Pierre‑Marie Riner is a French judoka who competes in the heavyweight division (+100 kg) and is regarded as one of the sport’s greatest athletes. Over his career he has won twelve world titles — including individual and team events — and three Olympic gold medals in the heavyweight division (2012, 2016 and 2024), as well as playing decisive roles in mixed team titles. His undefeated run from 2010 to 2020, a streak of 154 consecutive wins, made him a central figure in contemporary judo.
Riner has also collected multiple European titles, Masters and Grand Slam victories, and reached historic milestones by equaling Olympic records for individual judo wins. Known for his imposing stature (2.04 m) and nicknamed “Teddy Bear” or “Big Ted,” he stood out from a young age, becoming the youngest senior world champion in 2007. His career is defined by technical dominance, competitive longevity, and leadership within the national teams.
