Van Hansis (Evan Vanfossen Hansis) is an American stage, television and film actor, best known for his work in soap operas and independent series. A graduate in acting from Carnegie Mellon University, he began his career in theatre with appearances in productions such as The Laramie Project and at the Williamstown Theatre Festival before moving into television and film. He rose to prominence playing Luke Snyder on As the World Turns (2005–2010), a role notable for featuring one of the first daytime television romantic storylines between two men in the United States; the kiss between Luke and Noah Mayer in 2007 was cited as a landmark moment for gay representation in the genre. For the role he received Daytime Emmy nominations in 2007, 2008 and 2009. In the following decade Hansis starred in the web series EastSiders as Thom, a performance that earned him further nominations in independent awards and another Daytime Emmy nomination in 2016. He has also appeared in films such as Occupant (2011), Devil May Call (2013) and Kiss Me, Kill Me (2015), as well as in various television episode roles. His career is distinguished by the shift from theatre to prominent television roles and by contributions to LGBTQ+ visibility in both mainstream and independent storytelling.
