Victoria Shaw was an Australian actress who worked mainly in film and television from the 1950s to the 1970s. Born Jeanette Elphick, she moved to the United States and rose to prominence after winning the Golden Globe for Most Promising Newcomer for her second American film, an award that opened doors for her in Hollywood. Throughout her film career she appeared in notable titles such as The Crimson Kimono (1959), Edge of Eternity (1959), Alvarez Kelly (1966) and Westworld (1973). Her repertoire included both studio productions and independent films, demonstrating versatility in genres ranging from drama to western and science fiction. On television, Shaw had roles in more than twenty classic American series, including The Man from U.N.C.L.E., The F.B.I., McCloud and Charlie’s Angels, as well as episodes of anthologies and TV movies. After reducing her artistic activities, she returned to Australia, where she died in 1988. Her legacy is that of an Australian actress who achieved international recognition during Hollywood’s golden years, with a steady presence in film and television and an award that marked her professional breakthrough.
