Will Keith Kellogg was an American industrialist and philanthropist best known for founding the Kellogg Company, one of the leading makers of breakfast cereals. Originally associated with the Battle Creek Sanitarium, where he and his brother John Harvey Kellogg helped refine the process for producing cereal flakes, W. K. turned that innovation into a business by creating the Battle Creek Toasted Corn Flake Company in 1906, the forerunner of the Kellogg Company. His business vision included marketing and packaging innovations such as premiums inside boxes and pioneering nutritional labeling. As a businessman, Kellogg also adopted social practices during the Great Depression, staggering work shifts to employ more people in Battle Creek. Alongside the food industry, he devoted himself to breeding Arabian horses, establishing a prominent ranch in California that attracted Hollywood names and became an important center for the genetic improvement of those bloodlines. His public role was complemented by philanthropy: between 1930 and 1934 he founded the W. K. Kellogg Foundation, providing a large initial endowment that established a legacy focused on education and social welfare. The combination of his business activities, social initiatives, and philanthropic support made Kellogg an influential figure in the food industry and in the field of social investment in the United States.
