Abigail Pierrepont Johnson is an American financial executive, heir and chief executive officer of Fidelity Investments, the group founded by her grandfather. She has led the company as CEO since 2014 and in 2016 also became chair of the board, combining executive and strategic control over the family group's operations, whose core and affiliates hold about 40% of the company.
During her tenure, Johnson oversaw a diversification of the business, reducing reliance on open-end mutual funds and expanding financial advisory, brokerage and venture capital services. Under her leadership, Fidelity invested in technology and expanded into digital assets: it launched funds and custody platforms for cryptocurrencies, paving the way for institutional investors in that segment.
Named among the world’s most influential women by Forbes and by trade publications in the financial sector, Johnson also serves on boards and committees focused on capital markets and the financial services industry. Her career is defined by family succession, Fidelity’s strategic expansion and her growing public profile as one of the central figures in the U.S. financial sector.
