Ronan Farrow is an American human rights activist, journalist and lawyer whose work focuses on humanitarian crises and abuses of power. His articles and reports have appeared in outlets such as the Los Angeles Times, the International Herald Tribune and the Wall Street Journal, with particular attention to issues in the Horn of Africa. Over his career he has also held government positions related to humanitarian affairs and cooperation with NGOs, concentrating on regions such as Afghanistan and Pakistan. The grandson of Maureen O'Sullivan and John Farrow, and the son of Mia Farrow and Woody Allen, his public life has involved family exposure; he was named after the baseball player Satchel Paige and after his grandmother. In 2009 there were reports of his candidacy for a position in the Obama administration, and later accounts identified him as Special Advisor for Humanitarian Affairs and NGO Affairs at the State Department. His publications and foreign-policy experience place his work at the intersection of investigative journalism and human-rights advocacy, with his notability stemming chiefly from coverage of regional crises and involvement in humanitarian initiatives.
