Frederica, Princess of Hanover, was a member of the Hanoverian royal house who, after her marriage, lived mainly in England and became known as a social and philanthropic figure. A male‑line granddaughter of King George III, she retained royal titles and a prominent place among the Anglo‑European aristocracy of the late 19th century. She married in 1880 to Baron Alfons von Pawel‑Rammingen, and the couple lived for many years at Hampton Court Palace, frequently appearing in court circles such as at Windsor and Osborne House. Her public activity focused on charitable work, emphasizing assistance to poor women after childbirth and support for institutions for the blind — a personal motivation linked to her father’s blindness. She founded a convalescent home for new mothers and was patron of schools and associations dedicated to the education of the deaf, to aid for military families, and to animal welfare. She also helped expand schools in London’s growing suburbs. In later years she spent seasons in Biarritz, where she owned the Villa Mouriscot, and died there in 1926. She was buried in the Royal Vault of St George’s Chapel, Windsor. Her public legacy remains connected to social patronage and the promotion of educational and welfare institutions.
