Benny Andersson is a Swedish musician, composer and producer whose career spans commercial pop and folk tradition. He became internationally known as the keyboardist and writer of much of ABBA’s repertoire; songs such as "Dancing Queen," "Mamma Mia" and "The Winner Takes It All" defined generations and brought commercial success and awards in multiple countries. Before ABBA, he rose to prominence on the Swedish pop scene with the group The Hep Stars, where he was already writing local hits, and his compositional partnership with Björn Ulvaeus laid the groundwork for the formation of the quartet. After the group ended, he continued collaborating with Björn on high-profile theatrical projects such as the musical Chess and the ambitious Swedish-language production Kristina från Duvemåla. From the 2000s onward he deepened his interest in traditional Swedish music by founding Benny Anderssons Orkester (BAO), achieving domestic success with recordings and performances that reinforced his status as a central figure in Swedish popular music. His career encompasses both globally influential pop songwriting and significant contributions to musical theatre and the preservation of national repertoire.
