Brad Whitford is an American guitarist best known for his role in the hard rock band Aerosmith, for which he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001. Musically formed in local bands and at the Berklee College of Music, he joined the group in 1971 and contributed as an instrumentalist and songwriter, coauthoring hits such as “Last Child” and writing memorable riffs on heavier tracks like “Nobody’s Fault” and “Round and Round.” During his time with the band, Whitford also took part in side projects, including the Whitford/St. Holmes partnership in the early 1980s, and had brief collaborations with the Joe Perry Project. In the 1980s he struggled with alcohol abuse and underwent rehabilitation, remaining sober since then and returning to activities with Aerosmith. Beyond his work as a musician, Whitford has worked as a producer and participated in tribute tours and events with other notable guitarists. Known for a more studied, technical style in contrast to the rawer approach of his bandmate Joe Perry, he has influenced generations of guitarists and remains active in recordings and live performances.
