Ciro Pessoa Mendes Corrêa was a singer-songwriter, guitarist, lyricist, screenwriter, journalist and poet, a prominent figure in Brazilian rock from the 1980s onward. He became known as one of the founders of Titãs, credited with bringing together the group that would produce major national rock hits; he wrote notable songs such as "Sonífera Ilha" and "Homem Primata" despite not taking part in studio recordings by the original lineup. He later led the pioneering Cabine C, a post-punk and gothic rock band whose album Fósforos de Oxford (1986) received critical recognition despite poor commercial performance.
Over the following decades he pursued a varied career: he formed several projects—some short-lived—and launched a solo career from 2003 onward, producing experimental and psychedelic work that engaged with international and Brazilian references from the 1960s and 1970s. He also wrote essays, travel accounts and poems collected in publications and on his personal blog, and he composed the soundtrack and wrote the script for the film Oceano Atlantis.
In the final phase of his career he took part in pop-rock projects and remained publicly engaged as an instigator of political debate and criticism, leaving an authorial legacy that spans musical and literary genres and formats.
