Clare Rewcastle Brown is a British journalist and activist known for investigations into environmental crimes and corruption in Malaysia, particularly in Sarawak, where she was born. Founder of the blog Sarawak Report and the station Radio Free Sarawak, she became known for exposing deforestation, the seizure of indigenous lands, and links between political elites and local economic interests. Her work drew reprisals: she received threats, was banned from Sarawak, and was targeted by efforts to block her publications. From 2013 Rewcastle Brown gained international prominence by investigating the 1MDB scandal, publishing documents that alleged the diversion of billions of dollars and implicated high-level political and financial figures.
