Cecilie Auguste Marie of Mecklenburg-Schwerin was a duchess by birth and, through her marriage to Crown Prince Wilhelm, became the last Crown Princess of Prussia and of the German Empire (1905–1918). Known for her elegance and fashion sense, she quickly became a public figure at the German court, and her style influenced women across the empire. The marriage to the crown prince was celebrated with great pomp in Berlin, and the couple took up residence in prestigious palaces such as the Marble Palace in Potsdam and the Crown Prince’s Palace on Unter den Linden. In private, however, the marriage was marked by mutual infidelities and personal tensions, although it produced six children. With the collapse of the Empire at the end of the First World War, Cecilie faced the revolution and the political changes that led to the abdication of the imperial family. She chose to remain in Germany with her children, adapting to the new reality by reducing her household and accepting changes to aristocratic life. Her role symbolizes the transition from the imperial monarchy to republican Germany.
