Italian actress and screenwriter, Daria Nicolodi built a career across theater, television and genre cinema. Trained at the Rome Academy of Dramatic Arts, she made her stage debut as a young woman and took part in significant television and film productions of the 1970s, working with figures such as Francesco Rosi, Elio Petri and Carmelo Bene. Her versatility also extended to music and provocative theatrical shows. Her international notoriety came chiefly from a long collaboration with filmmaker Dario Argento: Nicolodi acted in and co-wrote key giallo and Italian horror films, including The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, Suspiria and Inferno. Her journalistic performance in The Bird with the Crystal Plumage was noted for portraying a female protagonist atypical for Italian cinema of the time. After the end of her partnership with Argento, she maintained a recurring presence in horror cinema and in auteur films, and also appeared in films directed by her daughter, Asia Argento. In later years her appearances became sporadic, but her legacy remains tied to shaping the imagery of Italian horror and to advocating for complex female roles within the genre.
