Edward Charles Raymund was an American businessman best known for founding Tech Data Corporation, a distributor that played a significant role in the technology supply chain in the late 20th century. He began his career as a representative for electronics manufacturers and, noticing Florida’s demographic and economic growth, moved into distributing high-volume components before founding his own company in 1974. Tech Data started by selling media and peripherals and evolved into marketing personal computers and accessories as the IT industry expanded. Under his leadership as president, the company tracked the shift to the PC market in the 1980s, helping to make hardware available through reseller channels. In 1985 his son Steven became CEO, while Raymund remained president until 1991 and later served as chairman emeritus. In addition to his business activities, Raymund was active in a variety of philanthropic and community initiatives, supporting hospitals, educational institutions, and cultural organizations in Orange County and San Juan Capistrano. His legacy includes transforming Tech Data into a major player in technology distribution and sustaining family management through subsequent chapters of the company.
